In 1964, pe piata competitiva a restaurantelor din New York a luat fiinta un conceput cu totul nou in bucataria de lux, numit “Benihana din Tokyo”. Fondatorul sau, un tanar japonez olimpic la lupte greco-romane, Rocky Aoki, a dezvoltat acest concept in cel mai popular restaurant de familie din America si s-a extins pe plan international.
